Snow on the mountains

(Video with sound, 1:37 minutes)

How do we create and preserve memories?

The video work Snow on the mountains was created during my time at Dunedin School of Art in New Zealand. It examines how we carry memories with us over time through senses such as sound, smell and touch.

Still images of leaves in different colors from the same plant in New Zealand shift into each other. Through this shifts the work changes slowly, in a similar way that memories behave over time. Leaves are spread on the floor in the exhibition room which contributes with scent and tactility. The presence of the leaves makes the room changes over time. In the video there's a sound of the distinctive bird song of the Tūī bird which is endemic to New Zeeland.

The title Snow on the mountains is referencing a term used to describe when it's considered to be winter. It’s related to the passing of time and changing of seasons.
